Vintage Finds

A few of the creamy white vases I have found over the years with a new gem of a red tin.

Quilt and pillow found sometime this year,  sweet water color in a red frame is the recent vintage find..I love it!

Not sure what this is for....any guesses?

Ok, I know this doesn't look like much or vintage...I picked it up at the local thrift shop and have already started to dismantle it for encaustic work. Stay tune to see what it becomes!

Encaustic Painting

Here are the  last of the Autunm Song Series. These two are larger (12" x 12") then the  triptych  was done on 6x6" board. I had alot of fun doing these and would like to do more. So I am going to set up an etsy shop soon.

Autumn Song Triptych

Autumn is probably the most romantic time of year. Mother nature is showing her best colors. Everywhere you look  beauty inspires awe. The air has a nip to it,  so we wrap ourselves in soft warm things. And the ever so light music of leaves falling to the ground surround us. Could anything be more peaceful and pleasant

I took a break from working encaustic paintings to capture the last of the Zinnas from the garden in oils.

Loving wine & mustard, 'Autumn Song I'

I can't seem to get enough of this color combination!

An exquisite embroidery by my sister and a lovely pastel by Julie Johnston. You can see more of Julie's work here and here.

Homayoon brought home these baby eggplants for me, isn't the color magnificent!
Vintage crocheted hot pad, found at a nearby garage sale, wish they had more then one.

Here is the first encaustic painting from the Autumn Song Series. Encaustic means to 'burn in' I have done it with bees wax which gives it a misting look and smells beautifully while you are doing the fusing. Next to the painting is a cherished pottery pot my Dad made, filled with fragrant pin needles  collected on a walk in the woods. Autumn is definitely here!

In Progress

More encaustic painting/collage in progress, playing with the design...I am gonna call this series "Autumn Song" I've painted flowers and birds on vintage sheet music. The colors were inspired by our recent bike ride where I saw the most beautiful wine and mustard colored bushes growing next to each other. You can see the picture here although I didn't quite capture the intensity of the color. It really took my breath away.

I have found a new love, encaustic painting. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. The stars finally lined up and here is my first piece.
