Making Walnut Ink

All summer long I told my Dad I wanted to collect the walnuts once they fall from the tree to make walnut ink, some how I never got around to it. On our last day in Wisconsin my Dad surprised me with a bag of the now rotting walnuts he picked up under the tree. Thanks Dad:) I found instruction to make ink here...simple to the point, how I like it.

The pot of soaked walnuts ready to boil...Not sure how long I soaked them. I sort of forgot about them, must have been about a month.

 Testing the ink.

A messy process, don't wear white...but it all washed up, no permanent stains ,well except for the cloths.

Lots of lovely Walnut ink!!!!I got  4 full bottles (16 oz. each?) of ink from the walnuts pictured at the top of the post.

New Studio

I've been moving through many changes this year. Six months in Madison, then back to Mineappolis, a new apartment which came with an attic! Now my studio! It is still only half unpacked...4  shows in less the a month, moving and looking for a job has been overwhelming. I'm sooooo looking forward to routine studio time. This morning as I was packing for the Winona Art Walk, which is tomorrow, some lovely sun poured into the studio and I thought it a good time to take photo's.

It is a lot of space, YEAH! So far I have managed the cold with  plastic on the windows and a space heater my dear sister Denise gave me. Summer will be another story, but never mind that for now.

The Doorway

I saw this doorway in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. I was intrigued by the the play of light and shadow on the different textures.
