Some Small Pieces
Pieces up on the shelf waiting for the day( Reflection of Rust opens Dec. 4th). Not all is done, I have a lot of finishing to do and I may have to edit a few pieces I just can't finish. The problem is when you are creating the ideas multiple. Which is why if you are ever in a stump you must just get busy doing something. This is not my problem now. I have to reign in the ideas and stop creating so I can do finishing....you must focus on framing , you must focus on framing....this is my motto for now.

Fair Trade Coffee House/ Lovely Rust Find
Now that the Fair Trade Show is up I am working on the next....St Paul Art Crawl in Oct. I am thinking to frame the rust print paintings that I've done over this last year. I spend the morning going through them and picking out what I like best. Now to figure out how to frame them hmmmm.
On our way to Madison to put up the show we stopped at a little town in Wisconsin called Hixton and found the best rusty bits!!! This mudding tool had the most wonderful marks on it and such beautiful color of rust.

On My Desk
Still working on collage I seem to have caught the collage bug. I am actually working on collage, rust printing, oil and wax, textile rusting and encaustic. I just move from one station to the next as it moves me...if you were watching you may think I was schizophrenic. Let's hope some good things come out of it:)

Natural Stains
I was eating some beetroot the other day and couldn't resisting using the juices as paint. I painted on rice paper which is marvelous fun with beetroot juice and walnut ink then collaged it on a rust print. I apologize for the poor photo...my camera is on it's last legs, time for a new one.

A Song of Rust
This weekend I was showing at the St. Paul Art Crawl, the artist next to me was a photographer Brenda Manthe, who photographs Urban Abstracts. Her pictures reminded me of this photo I took at Harriet Island which inspired one of my encaustic pieces. The photo is above, it was a chimney on one of the old buildings. The Encaustic piece is below. It includes oils pastels rust sheet music from the 1800's charcoal and a face page from vintage book. Oh and beeswax and damar resin of course.

Hanging in the Attic
I have been working on collage, not sure where it is taking me but it feels right. I've always like putting things together to make a whole (quilting ,sewing, knitting crochet all have that element). When a piece has reached a certain point I like to take a look at it from a distance. Have it there for me to glance at while working on something else. Light bulbs of ideas will pop up at odd moments without effort....I guess I am letting my spirit work on it by having it in the space but not being my focus. Hanging them on this wire that runs through the attic studio works perfectly for this type of meditation.
I was surprised at this group of work this past week, they are all so different even though I am using the same basic materials.
